We crossed no borders to conquer or harm,
No shadows of violence hide in our palm.
With visas in hand, our children have come,
To seek out a classroom, not build up a slum.
The world knows the fires that burn in our Myanmar land,
Where futures are broken, and nothing is planned.
Yet brilliant and bright are the minds of our youth,
In global arenas, they shine with the truth.
As homes turn to rubble and markets decay,
To study and learn is their ultimate way.
But burdens of tuition have broken their dreams,
They labor through nights, tearing out at the seams.
Though some may have faltered or strayed from the floor,
We seek no invasion, we ask for no war.
We seek but a refuge, a temporary place,
To work and to study, to run in the race.
We ask for no handouts, no free, easy grace,
Just a chance to earn life in a safe, legal space.
Our struggles are inward, within our own walls,
We bring no disaster when destiny calls.
We honor your laws and the borders you keep,
For we know that the roots of a nation run deep.
If any defy you, then judge by the deed,
But spare the young children, the innocent seed.
We pose no great threat to the peace of your shore,
So close not the shutters, and bar not the door.
For if they are cast out to wander alone,
They will fall to the darkness, forgot and unknown.
Let the lamp of Columbia guide them today,
To lead them to light, and wash shadows away.
May peace be restored by the light that we bring,
And long live the world, where the innocent sing.
